Senior Technical Accountant

This position will perform general accounting activities:

  • Individual will be involved in expanding the technical accounting function and centralizing the general accounting activities from the various branch locations
  • Works in a team environment to develop policy and procedure over general accounting activities and establish best practices

 
The initial duties of the role include the following items: 

  • Research, document, and form conclusions related to technical accounting issues 
  • Help establish policies and procedures and develop infrastructure for the expanded general accounting department
  • Learn the current branch process
  • Develop a strong level of knowledge regarding the “to-be” process
  • Establish procedures for the centralized month-end close process, working to streamline activities and accelerate the close timeline
  • Support the general accounting work stream team with requests as needed

 
The ongoing job duties generally fall into the following categories:

  • Research technical accounting topics
  • Maintain and continuously expand on thorough understanding of GAAP 
  • Be given a topic and perform the technical accounting research for the topic at hand, this includes documenting in a technical memo
  • Update and develop companywide policies that follow GAAP month-end close activities and general accounting responsibilities 
  • Ownership over select general ledger accounts, which includes preparing and posting journal entries, reviewing account activity, preparing periodic (i.e. monthly, quarterly or annually) account reconciliations, explaining account activity and preparing account analyses
  • Develops and maintains thorough knowledge and understanding of company accounting policies, financial systems, transaction processes, internal controls and chart of accounts
  • Perform monthly analytical review of balance sheet and income statement for select branches
  • Properly apply GAAP and internal accounting controls and procedures to daily work
  • Oversight of select branch ledger accounts, interacting with the branch staff while providing excellent customer service
  • Help ensure timely completion of the month end close process by completing assigned work and assisting others as needed to meet deadlines
  • Maintain performance up to the standard of service level agreements with branch locations
  • Audit Assistance
  • Prepare audit work papers for internal and external auditors
  • Be able to explain work papers provided, procedures followed and internal controls applied
  • Special Projects
  • Complete special projects as assigned
  • Maintain documentation and continuously look for process improvements
  • Recommend updates to desktop procedures and process flows as part of best practice of maintaining current documentation
  • Develop and implement more efficient systems, as they are approved, for various departmental activities and programs; i.e., not just entering the data
  • Continuously challenge current processes as the business evolves to suggest and implement improvements in policy, procedure and systems

 
Job Requirements:        

  • Highly committed, reliable and competent professional
  • Must have working knowledge of accounting research resources
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office and proficiency in Excel
  • Must have excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
  • Well organized; self-starter; ability to get things done in a team–oriented environment
  •  Must have solid analytic skills
  • Ability to enthusiastically work with a wide range of personalities including company employees with a broad spectrum of experience and abilities

  • Ability to travel on occasion and work overtime during peak periods

 
Education Requirements:           

  • Minimum Education Required:  Bachelors of Accounting or Business is Required
  • Minimum Job-Related Experience Required:  3-5 years of relevant experience Public accounting experience preferred
