Taking a Hike for Healthy Lungs

Detroit Consultant Cheryl Clancy appreciates breathing perhaps more than the average person. As an adult with asthma, a chronic breathing disorder, it's a struggle for her just to breathe normally some days. Fortunately, the American Lung Association has been working to improve the lives of people with lung-related health conditions for more than a century.

That's why Cheryl was eager to participate in Climb Detroit 2, the American Lung Association of Michigan's (ALAM) second annual stair climb in Detroit. Individuals and teams climbed the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center to raise money to fund lung health research, education and advocacy in Michigan. Climbers scaled either 70 flights (1035 steps in 20.06 minutes!) in the full climb, or 40 flights in the half climb.

Cheryl was part of a 28-member team called The Rencensationals, who together raised $8,549.85 for the American Lung Association. Cheryl personally raised $532.85 with the help of generous support of friends and family.

This event is unique, fun and celebrates both novice and expert athletes with exemplary lung health. Similar events in other Midwest cities have drawn thousands of climbers and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to aid ALAM in its mission of "improving life, one breath at a time."
