When your name begins with "A", leadership is almost inevitable. So it's only natural that the Atlanta office of Accretive Solutions would advocate for local causes. Or maybe it's because the Atlanta staff is as committed to community service as they are to their AS clients. Whatever the inspiration, this group has a collective huge heart, and the dedication to make a difference.
When they're not meeting challenges and exceeding expectations in business, the Atlanta team is hands-on in their efforts to help the community where they live and work:
Over the past year, the Atlanta office has volunteered for several different charities around the Atlanta area.
Genesis Shelter – The Atlanta team spent a Saturday at the Genesis Shelter in Atlanta. The team split into two groups, and one group prepared lunch for the residents, while the other group painted two rooms in the house. It was quite a hectic day with the projects going on simultaneously, but the residents were so thankful that it was really rewarding! The Atlanta team came together again over the Christmas holidays and sponsored a family at the Shelter. The team collected funds then went on a shopping spree for the sponsored family to provide them the best Christmas possible.
The Genesis Shelter provides a temporary home for homeless women who are about to have, or have just had a child. For more information, visit www.genesisshelter.com.
.
The Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children – The Atlanta Day Shelter provides a much-needed service in the Atlanta area, and relies heavily on the efforts of volunteers. A group of 10 volunteers from the Atlanta office spent a morning at the shelter where they assembled hygiene kits for the residents. One of the team members, Bill Hatherley, also treated the residents to a visit with his therapy dog, Brinkley, He entertained the children with his tricks and calmness. He helped the facility’s clients to smile and many told stories about pets they had known over the years. He was in such demand that the Shelter management asked him to return for a follow-up visit. The team also presented the Shelter with a check for $250.
The Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children is a Christian, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women and children obtain the resources they need to be able to escape their desperate situtation and begin happier, more independent lives. Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta. Many Furniture Bank clients are transitioning from homeless shelters into apartments and homes. In order to help with the transition, the Furniture Bank provides Kitchen Kits, which contain kitchen necessities including dishes, silverware and pots and pans. The Atlanta team spent a few weeks collecting and purchasing items, then gathered at the office after work to assemble kits which were then delivered to the Furniture Bank.
The Furniture Bank was founded in 1988 in response to the lack of furniture for families moving out of homeless shelters. Today the Furniture Bank provides essential household furniture to individuals and families moving out of homelessness, battling HIV/AIDS, and fleeing domestic violence. The Binky Program: The Atlanta team came decided to try something a little different for their recent volunteer event. They heard about the Binky Program, which provides fleece blankets for children and teens in need of comfort. Some of the members of the Atlanta team had made the no-sew fleece blankets for other events, so they gathered the group, gave some quick training and off they went!
The mission of the Binky Patrol is to make blankets and give them away to children and teens in need of comfort. Those who are ill, abused, in foster care or experiencing trauma of any kind may receive a binky. For more information, visit www.binkypatrol.org.
